Registration Information - FAQ

How do I register?

Registration takes place during the first week of the session. You need to come to the pool between 5:00-6:30pm . We will have tables set-up for you to fill out paper work and pick-up and any relevant information about schedules, swimming levels, and team announcements. If you would like to fill out some paper work before you get there you can download the registration form from the Registration information page. The first week is a trial week so that you may be able to try out our services.

When are the sessions?

All of the session dates are posted on the Session dates page of this website. However, we generally start each Fall around Labor Day. We run three consecutive nine week sessions that typically end prior to Iowa State ’s spring break. We start our spring session the Monday following spring break. The spring and summer sessions are consecutive ten week sessions that end during the first week of August. Novice sessions will only run for seven weeks with the start dates coinciding with the start of each new session.

What are the practice times?

The practice times for Fall and Winter are generally from 5:15-6:15pm for Novice, 5:00-6:20pm for Age-Group 1 & 2, 5:00-6:45pm for Age group 3, and 4:45-7:00pm for all Senior groups. Novice practices 3 times per week, Age-Group 1 & 2 practices 4 times per week, Age-Group 3 practices 5 times per week, and the Senior groups practice between 5-9 times per week. Mornings practices are offered for swimmers 8 th grade or older. Saturday practices are offered for Age-Group 3 and higher.

Spring practice times are generally similar to Fall and Winter. The Senior 2 and National groups will practice from 3:15-5:25pm . All other groups will remain the same.

Summer practice times will start in the morning. The Senior groups will practice from 5:45-8:15am and the Age-Groups will practice around 7:30-9:00am . Novice will practice from 5:15-6:15pm .

All practice times can vary based on pool availability.

Is there a practice commitment?

There is no practice commitment for any group except National. However, with most sports, the more you practice the faster you will improve. Advancements between groups has an attendance component. However, other factors will be considered in advancements.

Is competition required?

Competition is not required. The goal of the Novice group is to become “Competition Certified”. Novice will not be expected to compete. However, we will encourage any swimmer in any group to compete. Swimmers become motivated once they see how much they have improved by attending swim competitions.
